The KCET result is published as a rank card, based on your score against the final answer key. Your rank, not your raw score alone, is what determines which colleges and courses you can realistically target in counselling.
How the rank is calculated
Your KCET rank is not based on your KCET exam marks alone — it's a composite of your KCET score and your 2nd PUC (Class 12) PCM board marks, weighted 50:50:
- PUC percentage = (your PCM board marks ÷ 300) × 100
- KCET percentage = (your KCET score ÷ 180) × 100
- Composite merit score = (PUC percentage + KCET percentage) ÷ 2
This composite score, not your raw KCET marks, is what actually determines your rank — which is why two candidates with identical KCET scores but a meaningful gap in board percentage can end up with very different ranks. If two candidates end up with the same composite score, KEA applies statutory tie-breakers in strict order: Higher KCET Mathematics marks → Higher KCET Physics marks → Higher KCET Chemistry marks → Higher Board Maths marks → Higher Board Physics marks → Higher Board Chemistry marks → Older candidate by date of birth. Your category rank (GM, SC, ST, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, Category-1) uses this exact same formula — it isn't calculated differently. The reason your category rank number looks so different from your overall rank is that each category is ranked separately against only the candidates in that category's own pool, not against everyone. That's also why category cutoffs and GM cutoffs can differ by tens of thousands of ranks (see the cutoff page for real examples) despite using the identical composite formula underneath.

The 2026 result was declared on June 6, 2026: 2,92,782 candidates received a valid rank, out of roughly 3.09 lakh who appeared across 745 centres statewide. 2026 centralised counselling has concluded. Getting "HTTP 503" or the site won't load on result day?
This is normal, not a sign anything's wrong with your specific result. Karnataka's result-day traffic has repeatedly overwhelmed KEA's servers — a documented recurring issue where every official result link starts returning HTTP 503: Service Unavailable for hours, simply because the volume of simultaneous requests exceeds what the servers can handle at once. It has nothing to do with your application specifically.
- Wait and retry during off-peak hours rather than repeatedly refreshing during the first rush — early morning or late night typically load faster.
- Double-check your login details if you get an error other than a server/503 error — incorrect application number or password is a separate, more common cause than server load.
- Switch to a faster, more stable connection if the page loads partially but downloads keep failing.
